On Thursday, September 15, 2022, our DDM4SME team from Masaryk University Brno held its national workshop dedicated to the project. The workshop was attended by practicing lawyers, attorneys, representatives of state institutions and other universities. Representatives of ministries, the private sector and the media were invited to participate in the discussion panel.
The workshop started with a brief introduction of the upcoming LLM programme in Data Economy Law, which Masaryk University is preparing in cooperation with University for Continuing Education Krems, Carl-August University Göttingen and Kazimieras Simonavicius University Vilnius. Prof Pavel Koukal from Masaryk University introduced the audience to the three intellectual outputs of the project and gave an update over current achievement. As major milestone, the DDM4SME Summer School on Data Economy Law was reviewed by the audience and received great feedback.
After the presentation, there was a panel discussion focusing on the European Commission’s legislative proposals in the „European Strategy for Data“ (Data Act, Data Governance Act) and their impact on the protection and use of intellectual property (in particular sui generis protection of databases and copyright materials) or Open-data Directive.
Finally, there was an open conversation on how the presented legislative proposals should be implemented into the DDM4SME LLM curriculum.
